giving Schemes
800+ is our restoration project which aims to get the church into good shape for the next century. ((details from button above about the project and how to fund raise for it / what we’re doing to fund raise).
Giving in memory of someone or leaving some money in your will can be meaningful and have a lasting impact.
Often such gifts enable us to achieve a specific goal or obtain or do something suitably special.
Whilst legacies given into general funds do not create a specific memory they are nevertheless lasting in the lives of those who benefit from the work the church is able to do as a result of being able to afford to be here in your community serving you.
Please do consider giving a legacy or in memory of a loved one who has gone on from this world.
Either arrange this through your will or talk with us further about how to do this and what our needs are that might match to what you want your memory to achieve.
Please do consider this option.
Something to suit you
Regular Giving is an excellent way to ensure that you do what you’d really wish to do but somehow don’t get round to. Those who do it make a HUGE difference to the ability of our church to be able to be here and serve you and our community.
So, whether you are a regular attender or just want to have a church and a vicar around in our village, please do consider giving a small amount regularly. If many do this it all adds up to a massive effect.
Regular giving has been the practice of Christians for millenia and is taught in the Bible as something we should all practice. The Bible also teaches us that it is up to each individual how much or how little they regularly give, but there are guidelines which amount to be generous for your generosity has a positive effect on the life of others. (If you want further details please talk to the vicar or other church officers).
We have a range of regular giving schemes which allow you to choose.
Giving on the plate
This is the ‘traditional’ way of giving, where there is a plate by the door at the back of church onto which people put cash donations when they attend church. We continue to offer this option. It is not the most tax efficient way of giving but thankfully the treasurery do allow us to reclaim some tax given in this way.
We now have a card reader at church so ‘on the plate’ gifts can be given electronically.
Giving by Standing Order
Giving by direct debit
Is another easiest scheme whcih can be set up that simply continues on and avoids you having to keep remembering to give. We do however recommend an annual review of your direct debit, to ensure that the amount your are giving matches to your ever changing circumstances.
Forms for these schemes will become available over time on this website, in the meantime you can get more information from the church treasurer.
do it by Bank Transfer, or cheque, or using in cash –
Bank Transfers should be to
Hook St Marys General
TSB Goole Branch
sort code : 77-12-28
account no : 00013487
reference : (as appropriate)
Cheques should be to
Hook St Marys General
and can be given to the treasurer, a church member or vicar
or sent to : The Vicarage, 12 Church Lane, Hook, Goole DN14 5PN
Cash can be given ‘on the plate’ at the back during church services, in the gift box in church or given to a church officer, in which case a receipt should be received from them.
Please as necessary provide us with a note explaining what you want your gift to be given to.
NOTE : We have to raise almost all the money to run our church and keep our building up locally.
If you want a church to be here and a vicar to be available for you and our community, please help us provide this service by giving in some way to us.
Also Note : some of Hook Church monies are adminstered by the Diocese of Sheffield (our regional church organisation). These include the vicar’s wages and monies which help us provide other local services. Though we pay money to Sheffield to enable this paying of or our staff and services we use, OUR GENERAL fund does not, currently, more widely support the work of the Diocese of Sheffield or Church of England. i.e. EVERYTHING you give to our General Fund is used to provide a church and church staff and services here.
If you can GIFT AID your donation it gives us an extra 25p for each £1 you give us. This makes a big difference to us.
Baptism Donations
If you are giving at a Baptism, it helps our audit trail if you give using the button above, rather than the General Fund button. The money goes to the same place and is used for the same purposes (see above)
Funeral Donations
If you are giving at a Funeral often the funds are shared with one or more other charity.
It helps ensure the money goes to these places if you give using this page or our website and then to the individual’s causes.
