SPONSOR A CHAIR

SPONSOR A CHAIR

There’s been a church serving the people of Hook for a long time. Our building, St Marys, is 800 years old in 2025 and we want it to be filled with life and love for another 800 years.

But to begin with we’re looking to the nearer future by working to make a building fit for what a 21st Century church needs and a great space for a wide range of other community activities, which could include heritage events, craft fairs, exhibitions, small group meetings, concerts and so much more, events which add value to the ones already happening in our community.

To facilitate this we need to replace our traditional pews with 140 chairs, which will cost around £17,500 or £125 per chair.

This will create a beautiful, flexible space, as can be seen at many great buildings like Westminster Abbey and York Minster. By sponsoring a chair(s) you will be helping to secure the future of our church, creating the space to ensure our church is fit for use for the 21st Century, enabling the whole community to use the space and flourish.

If you wish, details of your sponsorship of each chair, with a dedication of your choice, can be recorded in a presentation book, which will be kept securely in church and displayed on special occasions. A plaque inscribed with the same or a differently worded dedication can also be displayed on the back of the chair.

The dedication may be your name, that of an organisation, to commemorate a special occasion or in memory of a loved one.

Sponsorship can be paid online on our dedicated Sponsor a Chair JustGiving Page, where you can also set up a fundraising page, for example if the chair is in memory of a loved one.

Just click on the JustGiving Logo to get started.

Alternatively you can download a sponsorship form and return with your payment as indicated on the form:

Should the total of funds raised by the chair sponsorship project exceed the total cost of the chairs, dollies and associated storage arrangements, any excess will be added to the Church restoration general funds for the benefit of this, or if the restoration is complete added to the general fund to help maintain the church and its ministry for the future benefit of the community.

Full terms and conditions are available on request.

(The picture above shows the church as it might have been for the first 550 years of its life when it had no pews, and would have served as a village hall as well as a space for Sunday worship with a sanctuary at one end which was kept apart holy but the rest used in many ways for the benefit of the whole community.)
